RFCにも間違いはあるんだね

ちょっと必要があって、インターネットの歴史を調べていて発見したことがあります。
インターネットの前身、ARPANETでは、プロトコルはNCP、今のルータにあたる機械にはIMPというものが使われていました。
このIMPというハード、NHKスペシャルの「新・電子立国」では確かInformation Message Processorの略として紹介されていたのですが、ネットで確認するとInterface Message Processorの略とする解説が圧倒的に多いのです。

それでRFCを調べてみたら、RFC2235（Hobbes' Internet Timeline）に以下の記述がありました。

1969
     ARPANET commissioned by DoD for research into networking
        - First node at UCLA, Network Measurements Center
          [SDS SIGMA 7, SEX] and soon after at:
             - Stanford Research Institute (SRI), NIC [SDS940/Genie]
             - UCSB, Culler-Fried Interactive Mathematics
               [IBM 360/75, OS/MVT]
             - Univ of Utah, Graphics [DEC PDP-10, Tenex]
        - use of Information Message Processors (IMP) [Honeywell 516
          mini computer with 12K of memory developed by Bolt Beranek
          and Newman, Inc. (BBN)

RFCにこう書いてあるんだから「これはもう間違いないだろう」と思いましたが、念のためさらに調べると、このRFCの著者自身のページが見つかりました。

この文章の執筆時点で"v8.1"になっていて、RFC2235より後に書かれていますが、そこにはRFCにあった記述が削除され、代わりに以下のように書かれています。

PS-network presented to the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) 

Request for quotation for ARPANET (29 Jul) sent out in August; responses received in September 

University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) awarded Network Measurement Center contract in October

筆者自身が訂正しているので、どうやら元の文書は誤りを含んだままRFCになってしまった、ということのようです。
ということで、IMPはInterface Message Processorの略が正しいようで。　こういうこともあるんですね。
